How do I set up my BlackBerry® email?

There are 2 ways to set up your BlackBerry® to receive Emails, either from the handset directly, or by using a computer.

When you set up Email using BIS, an account is created which allows you to add, edit, or delete the Email address associated with your device.  If you have created a BIS account already, you will need your existing user name and password.

Setting up your Emails from your handset.

These simple steps below should help you to effortlessly set up your email account.

  1. In the handset menu, select BlackBerry Setup setup
  2. You will either be given an option that says Email Setup or Email Accounts, select this.
  3. If you are given an option to select the type of account (Internet Mail Account, or Enterprise Account), select Internet Mail Account.
  4. If you are given an option that says "I want to create or add an email address", select next.
  5. You will now be directed to BlackBerry®'s Email Setup wizard.
  6. If you have an existing BIS account, you will need to enter the username and password now.  If you can't remember your password, there will be a Forgot Password link.
  7. If you are given an Email client menu to choose from, for example, Yahoo!, Google, Windows Live, or Other.  Select the appropriate option for your email address.  You can also set up a new BlackBerry® email address if you wish.
  8. Enter your existing Email address the password used to access that account.  Your device will now search for that Email account and when found, it will display  a message that says something like "You have successfully added youremailaddress."
  9. Select OK
  10. If you have more than one Email address to add, you may add another one now, by simply selecting Add again and following the same procedure, otherwise select Close.
  11. You will see now that a new Email icon BlackBerry email icon has been added to your home screen, and if you select the icon, the email address will appear to show you which account it is for.  You can now send and receive Emails using your BlackBerry® Smartphone.

Setting up Emails from a computer.

These steps will help you set up your Email using a computer, but first you will need to navigate to the BlackBerry® BIS account page for your mobile network.  Click the network logo that you're connected with, a new internet window will open.

If you do not have an active BIS account, you will need create one by clicking the 'Create New Account' button.  If you do already have an active BIS account, enter your Username and Password and press Login.

  1. If you create a new account, you will be presented with terms and conditions which you will need to accept before you can continue.
  2. You will now need to enter the PIN (Personal Information number) for the handset, and the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number.  Both can be found on a small sticker on the back of the handset underneath the battery, or on the side of the box.
  3. Press Continue
  4. You will now need to choose a new Username and Password and press Next.  We recommend that you choose a strong password that cannot be easily guessed and includes a mixture of letters, numbers and punctuation.
  5. If your chosen username has already been taken by another BIS user, you can either choose a different username or pick one of the suggested ones on screen.
  6. Your BIS account is now set up and is ready to have Email addresses added.  Enter your Email address and its associated Password.  Don't worry, this password won't be given out to anyone, and will be dotted out when you type it in.
  7. Your Email address will now be added to your BIS account, and after a minute or 2, you will see a new Email icon BlackBerru email icon appear on your BlackBerry® Smartphone home screen.  For each new Email account you add to your BIS account, a new Email folder will be added to your home screen.
